Drone Nerds features resident experts and pilots who bring a wealth of knowledge and insight on some of the latest platforms and payloads available to large and small businesses.
We interviewed Julian Villada, one of our UAV Operations Coordinators, to get his insight on a platform he regularly showcases during roadshows and demo training.

We’ve showcased the eBee tac throughout several trainings and demos, can you tell us a little more about why you enjoy working with this platform?
“I really enjoy working with the AgEagle eBee TAC because it is a lightweight, fixed-wing drone that can be used for a ton of different operations, it’s easy to maneuver, and is customizable with the different payload offerings.”

What do you like about this specific platform?
“The first thing I wanted to talk about is the construction material— it’s composed of foam, well, technically CURV polypropylene (yes, I’m a nerd!) Look at it from a pilot’s perspective… It serves several purposes that give it an overall advantage as a drone. First of all, it’s extremely lightweight, so it glides through the air and is energy efficient. Secondly, it’s less likely to be damaged if it crashes.

This aircraft, as mentioned before, is rugged, strong, and lightweight. It can take the force of a hard landing and spread it across the entire body and absorb the impact! For businesses, this is great because you can still continue flying and avoid operational downtime.”

Why is this platform so beneficial for businesses large and small?
“The vast amount of payloads that are available for it to perform different tasks is why it’s so useful!  We’ve used the eBee Tac for training across various industries, including public safety, civil engineering, agriculture, surveying, and others. Our public safety clients really leverage the thermal payload, the Duet T, and our agriculture clients report great results from using the multispectral payload, like the Duet M.”

What are some of the features that make this a great platform?
“Aside from being approved for BVLOS (Beyond-Visual-Line-of-Sight) operations, the eBee TAC offers encrypted telemetry, up to 90 minutes of flight time, and great coverage – like 1200+ acres in a single flight! On top of that, its lightweight, safe body has made it a drone certified for flights over people. Combine those features with the 3-minute deployment… it’s a fantastic platform for fast operations where every second counts.”

If you had to recommend this aircraft to a business, what would be the key deciding factor for them to select this UAV?
“The software—this platform is easy to understand and I personally believe it is very user-friendly. You can create your flight missions and see them in 3D, which allows you to better  understand how the aircraft will navigate in your environment.”

Is there anything else you think people should know about this drone?
“This platform passed the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) tests and a BLUE-UAS-approved drone. It can be used by all agencies that must adhere to the Blue UAS regulation.”

AgEagle drones help users move beyond convention and command the future. These fixed-wing drones are autonomous, safe, ultra-light, and easy to use. Designed to meet the highest standards of various industries, these drones weigh under 2kg (4.4 lbs.), and offer regulatory advantages along with powerful performance.
