With advancements in autonomous flight and supportive changes in regulations in favor of BVLOS operations, drone docks are paving the way for fully remote operations. After the launch of the DJI Dock, many businesses saw success with leveraging this technology. Now, the world eagerly awaits the launch of the DJI Dock 2— a new and improved dock that is expected to be lighter and more accessible than ever.

The DJI Dock 2 is assumed to be more compact and portable than its predecessor; additionally, the DJI Dock 2 will support a 6.2-mile operation radius, compared to the just over 4.3-mile radius supported by the DJI Dock.

When it comes to compatibility, the DJI Dock 2 will feature the M3D, a version of the Matrice designed specifically for the dock, as well as the M3TD, thermal version. While they have the same 12 MP telecamera featuring a 1/2” CMOS sensor with 56x hybrid zoom, the M3TD has a 1/1.32″ CMOS, 48MP wide camera and thermal sensor with 640×512@30fps capabilities. The M3D integrates a 20MP wide camera, which many industries will find useful. Combined with these two new drones, the DJI Dock 2 will also support improved coverage and efficiency, with a 50 min max. flight time.

This is exciting news for various industries, especially for any operations that need continuous monitoring and progress reports of the same area over a period of time. As for the M3TD, it comes equipped with both the thermal and the RGB camera, which like other DJI thermal products, is ideal for security patrol, emergency response, automated asset inspections and so on.

While the DJI Dock 2 and new M3D drones are robust as is, the DJI Dock 2 will continue to work with the DJI FlightHub 2 platform and supports Cloud API for third-party developers to build cloud platforms to operate and manage DJI Dock 2.
