As new UAVs emerge, so do the accessories that complement them. These accessories are built with the latest advancements in technology, which cater to different industries, such as agriculture. There’s no doubt that these accessories are developed with one primary objective: to transform complicated or tedious tasks into much simpler and easy-going procedures. This is the case with the new MicaSense RedEdge-P multispectral data sensor for drones.

What is the MicaSense RedEdge-P?

The MicaSense RedEdge-P is the ultimate solution for high-resolution RGB and multispectral data. In other words, it’s a rugged, high-quality, and powerful multispectral sensor with a high-res panchromatic band for pan-sharpened output resolutions of 2cm (at 60m). This is twice the ground resolution of the industry-standard RedEdge-MX.

What are Panchromatic Images & Pan-sharpening?

  • Panchromatic image: Made when the imaging sensor becomes sensitive to a large number of light wavelengths, normally covering a big spectrum visible part.
  • Pan-sharpening: It’s used to increase the spatial resolution and provide better visualization of a multiband image using the high-res, single-band image.

How Does the MicaSense RedEdge-P Work?

The RedEdge-P is a single camera that captures calibrated, high-res multispectral RGB imagery with an optimized field of view (FOV) and capture rate for efficient flights. The sensor seamlessly integrates a high-res, all-color imager with synchronized multispectral imagers. This enables pixel-aligned outputs at previously unattainable resolutions. Raw data from RedEdge-P may be processed using the standard household software in the industry.

Who Benefits from a RedEdge-P Sensor?

Overall farmers, scientists, and agriculture professionals may benefit from using a sensor tool like the MicaSense RedEdge-P.

RedEdge-P Integration Options

The MicaSense RedEdge-P is compatible with quick mount kits with the addition of a new wire harness. It has the same mounting pattern as the RedEdge-MX. Its weight of 300g means it is still below max payload capacity for many VTOLs (Vertical Takeoff & Landing Aircrafts).
