The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that it has granted the AgEagle Aerial Systems eBee drone series permission to fly over moving vehicles and people without any additional waivers. The Ebee X series drones are the first and only drones to comply with Category 3 of the Operations of Small Unmanned Aircraft System Over People (OOP); the FAA established this regulation in March 2021.

This motion is unprecedented in the commercial drone industry—this permission will allow all eBee X fixed-wing drones to fly over crowded areas, streets, roads, and other congested spaces; ultimately this permission will grant organizations from a variety of industries the freedom they need to operate their drones and collect data with limited barriers to their workflows. From monitoring traffic accidents to performing natural disaster assessments and inspections, the eBee X OOP waiver will enhance the efficiency of commercial operations.

Drones were previously limited in regard to approved flight areas—the FAA cited safety and security as the primary reason to limit flights over people, as crashing drones and dislodged parts could present risk of injury to those below. Manufacturers saw the FAA’s regulation limiting flights as an opportunity to advance their designs and research to find a viable solution for complete drone operations.

It’s not surprising that eBee drones have become the first to achieve this great milestone; in a press release from July 2022, AgEagle announced their findings of commercial drone data supplied by the FAA, proving the eBee series as a number one commercial drone choice for operators.

As the FAA and Department of Defense begin to crackdown on drone use, the news of AgEagle’s OOP waiver is a win for the company and operators alike; additionally, the eBee X is an approved drone brand for use by the Department of Defense as it satisfies all requirements stated by the Blue sUAS 2.0 program. It’s speculated that more local and state organizations that are in the process of integrating drone programs into their operations will begin to turn to AgEagle’s eBee X product line in order to gain funding for their programs and seamless use within their operations.
