Autel Robotics revealed a superior VTOL platform with enhanced AI capabilities in early 2021—the Autel Dragonfish. Unlike traditional quadcopter drones and other fixed-wing drones and VTOL platforms, the Dragonfish promises users a 120-minute flight time on a single charge, and increased endurance, even with an added payload.

The Dragonfish Series currently features three different models which were revealed in 2022—the Dragonfish Standard, Lite, and Pro. Each of these models offers smart, simple, and efficient capabilities designed to enhance field operations. The series’ drones have a modular carbon-fiber core covered in a composite, IP43-rated outer body which protects the drone from water penetration and grants greater wind resistance for operation in precarious conditions and complex terrain.

Its advanced safety and redundancy features, like Autel Robotics’ superior flight control platform, guarantee stability and reliability in every flight. The Dragonfish leverages its integrated high-quality sensors that monitor airspeed velocity in order to adjust flight conditions in real time based on external environmental factors. The Dragonfish also has an advanced internal communication system that allows pilots to monitor motor performance and rudder surface while in flight— the dual-redundant CAN bus communication protects the aircraft from electromagnetic interference.

The Dragonfish combines the best of intelligence and autonomy for simple operation—its AI and ability to perform automated functions allow pilots to navigate even in the most complex scenarios, making it the perfect drone for public safety. It also has a built-in ADS-B receiver, which is a millimeter-wave radar, allowing the Dragonfish to detect obstacles up to 200m away. The aircraft can easily adjust its height and speed in order to collect crucial data needed to execute fast, critical decisions during mission operations. This radar also secures the Dragonfish against accidental collision by offering superior obstacle avoidance.

The unique tilt-rotor design which enables vertical takeoff and landing allows public safety teams to deploy as quickly as 5 minutes as the whole system self-checks in as little as 5 seconds, granting officers a tactical advantage while on the scene of a mission. With high-quality payloads, like the L20T, the Dragonfish can provide live stream footage back to ground crews on Autel’s Ground Control Station immediately. The ultra-bright on the Autel Ground Control Station has a touchscreen of 1,000 nits, and the brightness allows for enhanced visibility in both direct sunlight and lowlight environments. It has an ultra HD resolution of  2048×1536, 4.5 hours of battery life, 256G internal storage, and can support up to 18.6 miles of operation transmission for government law enforcement operations.

With minimal maintenance requirements and a low-noise electric motor, the Dragonfish is perfect for high-altitude reconnaissance. Public safety teams can customize the drone to fit the needs of their specific operations, as the Dragonfish series models are compatible with multiple payload options. The Dragonfish Pro paired with the L50T payload can achieve 50x optical zoom and 240x hybrid zoom, offering clear images of objects that can be up to 1.25 miles away. Tactical teams can acquire crucial information from a safe distance, without sacrificing the safety of their officers.
