Drones have become popular tools for surveying, maintenance, and assessment throughout many industries, and the use of drones for inspections has become increasingly common. From use in industrial energy fields like wind turbines, solar farms, and high-voltage powerlines, to commercial and residential building inspections, drones have equipped technicians with the ease of use and efficiency they need to get jobs done faster. Building inspectors have found an ally in one of DJI’s most popular consumer FPV drones— the DJI Avata.

DJI released its newest FPV drone as a tough, agile upgrade to its existing consumer FPV platform. The Avata was designed as a compact, lightweight drone that can fly in between tight spaces. Its 155° FOV camera has made it popular among many racing and consumer audiences because it allows the pilot to experience visuals in flight like never before.

Most FPV cameras only offer up to 84° wide views; the expanded perspective allows pilots to view impactful, hyper-immersive visuals. With its 1/1.7-in sensor and 48MP camera, many users have experienced the Avata’s advanced capabilities and are taking its uses further, leveraging the Avata in commercial applications.

The Avata has found itself unlikely fans—many home and building inspectors are taking advantage of the Avata’s portability and safety features. It has a built-in propeller guard, which allows the Avata to safely return to the air if it bumps into any object; it also has a downward obstacle-sensing system. With the downward binocular vision and ToF infrared sensors, inspectors have been able to fly indoors, inspecting attics, crawl spaces, and other tight areas without having to go in themselves.

Because the Avata is equipped with RockSteady 2.0 and HorizonSteady, inspectors benefit from the ultra-stable footage and minimal camera shake to zoom in on trouble areas. The Motion Controller lets them position the aircraft in the precise location they need to zoom into in order to inspect an anomaly. With the DJI Goggles 2, inspectors can identify building cracks, fissures, or other structural problems from a distance on the 1080p Micro OLED screens. The Goggles 2 adjustable diopters allow users to adjust sight easily so inspectors can get a clear image of the object of interest.

Since the DJI Avata supports 4K ultra-wide-angle recording, inspectors or adjusters working with insurance companies can easily pass along the necessary information for quick claim processing—the high-resolution visuals take the guesswork out of inspections.

Compared to traditional commercial drones, the DJI Avata is portable yet powerful, giving inspectors the flexibility they need while on the job. Check out DJI’s Avata here, or connect with one of our experts to see what drone fits your needs.
